Visit the Beautiful City of Falls Church

The City of Falls Church in Northern Virginia offers a warm welcome to neighbors and visitors alike. It is one of the two geographically smallest cities in Virginia but is also part of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area. Aside from the access to the Museums and historic sites in D.C., Falls Church is full of a diverse historic culture of its own. The city got its name from the Episcopal Falls Church, which was founded in 1734 when the early Colonial settlers began to develop a township around the church. Today the city is most known for its urban village community, nationally ranked school system and environmental activism.

There are several city parks throughout Falls Church where residents and neighbors can come to walk, run bike and play. Most of them offer playground equipment for the children and some actually have lit courts for basketball, volley ball and tennis. After a day of fun filled activities, enjoy the picnic tables and grill equipment with a summer cookout.

Take a tour of the Cherry Hill Farmhouse that was built in 1845. It showcases the authentic household furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries as well as period tools in the 1856 barn. The very first rural branch of the NAACP was located at Tinner Hill, now a historic stie whose primary purpose is to powerfully and effectively convey an educational message about the history of the property and the individuals who sacrificed so much in the fight against racial discrimination. The State Theater located on North Washington Street is a historic theater that was built in 1936 and remained very popular until its closing in November of 1988. In the late 1990’s there was a multi-million dollar restoration that has turned the theater into the Washington Metro area’s favorite venue for music and private events.
