If You Don’t Like The Weather In Missouri, Stick Around For A Day

Centered in the middle of the United States, rests the “boot heel” state of Missouri. Home to legends such as Mark Twain, Harry Truman and Walt Disney, Missouri is rich in heritage and history. At one time divided between the North and the South in the Civil War, Missouri offers Civil War reenactments and historical battleground sites, such as Lexington, that can be toured.

It is commonly said by Missouri natives if you don’t like the weather, stick around for a day and it will change. Prone to heavy rains, droughts, snowstorms, and beautiful days, Missouri is prone to an ever-changing climate. Offering the nationally renowned Journalism School at the University of Missouri in Columbia, journalism and broadcasting students from across the nation flock to this prestigious school to continue their education. The elite University of Rolla provides engineering students an opportunity to study the versatile field of engineering and architecture right in the heart of Missouri.

It’s no small wonder the Missouri animal is the mule. In northern and central Missouri rests miles and miles of rural farmland. Abundant crops such as soybeans, corn, and wheat are all prominent crops in Missouri. Sharecropping is still in demand and many Missouri farmers rely on this method of agriculture to provide for their families.

In southern Missouri, you’ll find the infamous Ozarks. Miles of rolling hills, winding rivers and clear lakes provide great opportunities to camp, hunt and fish. Branson offers legendary musical and theatric shows ranging from world-renowned comedians to country stars such as Dolly Pardon and Mickey Gilley.

Just outside of Branson, snuggled in the Ozarks, rests the nationally recognized Silver Dollar City. Every year Silver Dollar City claims the top honors of national Christmas lighting recognition. With more than 4 million lights glittering throughout this hillbilly-themed park, hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Silver Dollar City each Christmas season to take in the breathtaking lighting festival.

St. Louis is known as the “Gateway to the West.” Resting on the Mississippi River, this metropolitan city offers the landmark Arch as well as laying claim to being home of the beautiful Budweiser Clydesdales. Weaving through the woodsy forests of Missouri, through the winding rivers and across the plains of crops, you’ll find the Lewis and Clark Trail. Once divided between the North and South, Missouri remains equally divided today between agriculture and city life.
